Snow, snow & more snow…
I am writing this blog curled up on the sofa next to a roaring fire, with a winter wonderland on the other side of our warm chalet. I have no feeling in my legs… and my back aches from what has been the most ridiculous opening weekend in Morzine and Avoriaz.
Over the past week, the snow fairies have delivered daily, with the snowfall reaching nearly 3 metres at last count. Before the opening weekend of Avoriaz, there were lots of rumours and anxious questions flying around, due to the fantastic conditions… was Les Gets was going to open early?? Will it keep dumping powder??… at one point there were whispers that that Avoriaz wasn’t going to open because there was TOO MUCH snow!
So, it didn’t stop snowing, Avoriaz did open up for the weekend, and so did parts of Les Gets. Amazing.
The Jack & Jill team were tucked up in our beds early on Friday night so that we could be up at daybreak to get the first lift and all that fresh powder. Looking down from the lift over the fluffy untouched white snow that blanketed the mountains, we were giddy with excitement.
The day will go down in my memory as the best opening weekend on record, getting fresh tracks on every run as we chased each other down massive powder fields. What a way to start the Jack & Jill ‘training week’.
Looking at the snow forecast we’re in for more great conditions so here’s to another fantastic season!
The Jack & Jill team.
